Often you’ll want to find sites that are closely related to another site in which you are familiar.
Maybe you are shopping and you want to price compare.
Maybe you didn’t find the news you were looking for and want to try a different news site.
Maybe you are looking for competitors in you areas.
Maybe you are looking for a business that does something similar to yours and you want to follow their example.
Maybe you are doing SEO research.
In these cases and many more, what you want to do is a similar site search.
In some cases, you can go to Google and search using the same Keywords that are applicable to the base company.
If you’re a Los Angeles-area dentist, for example, you can go to Google and search for “Los Angeles dentist” or “Los Angeles teeth cleaning.”
This will show you websites that are ranking for the Keywords you’re interested in, but the actual sites and companies behind the sites might not be relevant at all.
Instead, there is a much better (and easier) way to find related or similar websites.
Let’s take ESPN for example.
If you want to find sites similar to ESPN.com, simply go to Google and type in the search box “related:espn.com” and click the search icon.
Whaaaa Laa!
You’ll see that Google will return results for the NFL, Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports and much more.
In fact, Google will let you do a whole bunch of other cool stuff. Check out their feature search page.
So, what are you going to do a similar site search for now?
