Cory came to Gunner as a layout designer in the newspaper industry in 2013.
As he jokes, he got out just in time.
That said, he took a lot from his print days and applies them to his functional designs.
He hates what he calls "distraction design" - or design that focuses more on the design and less on the content.
Each design he creates focuses on the content as he says, that's what makes a product unique. Not a bunch of animations and colors.
He says the two most important aspects of designing a site are Speed and Comprehension.
"If the product is slow, people are gone," he says. "It's a nonstarter if the site is even remotely slow."
After that, it depends on the audience.
"Does the user know what they want from your site?" he says. "If so, they better be able to find it quickly. But if they're coming to your site for the first time, they better be able to know who you are and what you do within the first few seconds."
